Fish oil

Fish oil is taken from the liver of several kinds of fish including tuna, salmon, blue fish, sardines, anchovies, mackerel, trout, herring, mullet, sturgeon and menhaden. The oil is fatty oil, and you can often see it labeled as Omega-3 fatty acids on packaging because fish oil is so rich in Omega-3. It also contains eicosapentaenoic aced (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), both of which are essential to a well-functioning body.

Benefits of fish oil

  • Help to lower cholesterol, triglycerides, LDLs and blood pressure, while at the same time increasing good HDL cholesterol.
  • Omega-3 fatty acids, particularly EPA, regulate your body’s inflammation cycle, which prevents and relieves painful conditions like arthritis, prostatitis, cystitis and anything else ending in “itis.”
  • Omega-3 fish oil improves memory, recall, reasoning and focus. You’ll swear you’re getting younger and smarter.
  • Omega-3 fish oil stop the alteration from a normal healthy cell to a cancerous mass, inhibiting unwanted cellular growth and causing apoptosis, or cellular death, of cancer cells.
  • Omega-3 fish oil supplements alleviate the symptoms of depression, bipolar and psychosis
  • Fatty acids in fish oil can actually increase your body’s production of elastin and collagen, helping your skin to look younger and healthier longer.

Recommended dosage of fish oil

Adults should limit their daily intake of fish oil to 1000-2000 mg fish oil (omega-3) per day.
